Safe Crime zones
I can't stand how so many people think relying on police for protection is the way things should be done. The police absolutely do provide protection but everything about our country and mankind in general is based on banding together for survival. When you remove a primary method of defense from the population you not only make them dependent and subject to the anointed defenders, you create zones where criminals KNOW no one is able to equal them in fire power.

This article seems to make sense but violates something inside me. I can't put a finger on it but it just doesn't seem right. I guess part of it is that I would like that ONLY those who are there to protect us be allowed to carry guns...but the reality is that will never happen (US Constitution, anyone?).
Statistically, the likelihood that someone might have been in the NIU classroom carrying a concealed weapon and POSSIBLY could have stopped the shooter is better IF they had been allowed to carry on campus (which they are not)...it still does not guarantee stopping a crime. Just containing (which is what the police can do) but the hope is there at least.
How do we know who to avoid then if Joe Anyone is packing heat? When the gun dropped out of a student's waistband when I was in college, I at least knew we needed to call the police.
I am worried that this is about to be 1888 instead of 2008. We don't need a world full of cowboys...or do we?
An interesting take on the subject from the BBC...
